Q&A
What happens during the session?
We will review and discuss your current symptoms and health history. Depending on the issues presented, the session may also include acu-pressure, electro-acupuncture, reflexology, massage, gua sha, and cupping. The needles are retained for 20 to 40 minutes. Sessions are 1 hour to 1.5 hours.
Does the treatment hurt?
In general, acupuncture is painless. We use tiny, hair-like needles that are equivalent to the thickness of a cat whisker. The needles are sterilized, packaged, disposable, stainless steel. A guide tube allows for quick, painless insertion. They are discarded into a medical waste container after each use.
How many sessions will I need?
We will discuss an appropriate treatment plan with you during your initial evaluation. Acupuncture is not a magic bullet and it is not always a quick fix, especially for a longstanding issue. The treatments are cumulative and build upon the previous session. It is a process of re-wiring the nervous system. Each condition and person is different, but in general, we see improvement in 1-5 sessions for acute issues and 5-12 sessions for chronic issues. Monthly maintenance is recommended for sustainable results.
